Sam Threadneedle is a teacher in an all girls school. The school has become stagnant and her life just a little bit lonely. Magdalene Nox Is perceived as a tough ice queen who they fear will ruin the school once she takes over. The two share a history they were unaware of until their paths cross unexpectedly.
As always, Abby Craden did a great job narrating this book. I was really impressed with all the different secondary characters and how she handled each with their own unique voice. Every character was easily recognized, and felt good to listen to.
Right away I loved the main characters. The tension between them was fantastic too. Sam was such a pure character and it was fun seeing how she grew. She was a character of quiet strength that just increased over time. Magdalene was very intriguing as well. She definitely does give the ice queen vibe right away, but the author did so well at revealing who she really is over time. The way both grow as people while also dealing with growing tension between them is balanced so well.
I really wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I started this book but it was such a pleasant surprise. Not only is there great romantic tension, but there is also a degree of suspense throughout the plot as well. There’s a little bit of mystery involved that will keep you on edge. The plot twists where very well written and I can honestly say I don’t think I saw any of them coming, besides the obvious ones we are supposed to basically already know.
There is a really great cast of supporting characters as well. I feel like this book relies heavily on this fact and would not have worked without them. Everyone was so well written with strong personalities and important relevance to the plot. This is definitely one of those cases where they are just as important as the main characters.
I genuinely loved the plot of this book and is perfect mix of romance, suspense, and tension. An overall well rounded narrative that’s hard to put down.
